In regards to my previous post on the most recent 64 bit Windows version of Instant Player not playing .wav files, the 2.1 x86 Instant Player does play .wav on my new win 10 system.

I removed my previous post because I have resolved sound issues in other VRML browsers, but not Instant Player. I have included a simple test file that works in all other x3d/vrml browsers but not IP.
IP console output:

Here are my system specs. For some reason these specs which I copied off a console say Windows 8, but the OS really is Win 10 pro. Also not stated is the audio which is Realtek

Perhaps a strange question, but can a pen and tablet be with Instant Player? I have free hand script set up to draw on a large IndexedFaceSet with a mouse. While the simple script works, the appearance is fairly sloppy and I was thinking that using a pen and tablet would achieve nicer looking results. But will Instant Player read a pen's input? or treat it like a mouse? I didn't see a pen listed under

This is a difficult question to resolve since the problem seems to be related to the hardware of individual machines.
The following x3d world:
and a VRML version:

load fine on my five year old system, however on my client's system some or all of the jpegs will not load. (Some if the world is loaded as single user, and all if the world is loaded in my deep matrix MU system utilizing Java EAI)

Are there any possible reasons for this?
One more question that may or may not be relevant.
Does Instant Player cache files in some context using Internet Explorer's cache?

Hi soedenitel,
You can do it through Java EAI.
That's part of the beauty of interfacing with Java, if InstantPlayer can't do it for whatever reason, there is a good chance a work-around exists using Java.

Can a 3D format other than X3D/VRML –proprietary or other wise- draw a shared circle across a network in real time?

I haven't tested all the input sensors, but PlaneSensor isActive delivers FALSE twice. Try the slider in the attached isActive wrl and open the console. Contact and OctagaPlayer only deliver it once.

Looking at your tutorial:

The examples work fine, however in the case of the of:

When one of the windows is closed the other gets closed as well.
Is there a way to spawn an independent window so it can be closed
and not close the main scene too?

I noticed Browser.loadURL seems to work now (I think I tried it sometime ago and it didn't seem to be implemented)
Is there a parameter for that call to spawn an independent InstantPlayer window? At the moment it just replaces the current scene.

I realize I could do it through Java EAI and Runtime.getRuntime().exec(sCMD), but I was hoping there might be an easier way.

It seems Instant Player ignores Jump TRUE in the Viewpoint Node
and treats all Viewpoints as Jump FALSE. Please see attached file
and just walk to the flattened box.
It works fine in Contact, OctagaPlayer and Cosmoplayer

A friend of mine tried to run Instant Player's Java EAI on Debian x64 unsuccessfully and posted the error:

>Exception in thread "DM_Main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError?: >vrml/eai/Node

Says it all.

The Instant Reality installation was missing the instantreality.jar
I supplied him with it and everything works like it should now.

Luckily, Linux users tend to be more plucky than Window users who might very well just walk away with a shrug saying "Eh, it didn't work, I'll go try something else!"
Could you please make the Debian x64 installer and any other Linux flavors missing the instantreality.jar complete?

Yes, that is the issue.

Recent versions of Instant Player have a shortened clipping plane/z-buffer when a sky dome mesh is used in a world.
The problem seems to have arisen after InstantReality-Windows-vs2008-x86- ,which did not have the issue.
Try the attached file "moondial.wrl" which was made by noted blaxxun builder Stan Ogden's Neck a decade ago.
Try to move forward and holes will appear in the rocks and landscape.
moondial2.wrl is without the sky dome used in moondial.wrl It works fine.
The dome.wrl is the sky dome itself.

You could try Deep Matrix for Instant Player.
It has a special Proto that plays mp3 files as well as wav and other formats by using an open-source program called Java Zoom: in conjunction with Java EAI.

I realize you might not have an interest in multi-user, but the class
matrix.deck.eai2.MatrixSound could be easily reworked for a single user client.
The Matrix_Sound Proto can be found at:

and is implemented in the /client_appliction/world/matrix.wrl of the download.

It works much the same as a regular Sound Node, but doesn't have pitch or spatialize
